Google Nexus 7 Tablet vs Asus Transformer Pad TF300 vs Kindle Fire: Comparison

Apple New iPad

Google Nexus 7 tablet is certainly going to make an impact in the market when it is launched later this month. Not many people had expected the search giant to come with such a winning product at sub $200 price. But the company showcased a winning product manufactured in association with Taiwanese tech giant ASUS.

ASUS is known for manufacturing great products and its previous tablets have been appreciated by reviewers and users alike. Its Transformer Prime was a great tablet, and so was its next major upgrade that was introduced in the market a few months ago. Its only shortcoming is the great marketing might that is readily available to the likes of Cupertino based Apple and Korean technology behemoth Samsung.

Nexus 7 will come with the impeccable manufacturing quality of ASUS and will be backed by Google’s charm. These two factors along with the fact that it comes with great specs makes it very dependable product. It will be loved by users when it actually lands in the market within two weeks’ time.

Here we compare Google Nexus with Amazon Kindle Fire and Asus Transformer Pad TF300. The three are great products and come with great specs. But price is on higher side in case of Asus Transformer Pad TF300.

ASUS’s own Transformer Pad TF300 has been well received in the market. It is a low-cost 10.1-inch Android tablet from Asus. The device comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Tegra 3 quad core CPU. It comes with a polished and understated design with great graphics and processor performance thanks to Tegra 3. Further, the device shows off an IPS display with wide viewing angles and image clarity. Amazon’s Kindle Fire is among the highest selling tablet in the market. To be true it is the second highest selling tablet after Apple’s iPad brand.

Form factor: When it comes to form factor, two of the tablets come in the same -7inch display –while the other one comes with 10.1 inch display size. Compared with the Kindle Fire, and Nexus 7, the Transformer Pad 300 is large and bulky with the dimensions of 263 x 180.8 x 9.9mm and weight of 635 grams. But among other 10.1-inch tablets, this Asus product is notable with its great performance. The Kindle Fire is a tiny and lightweight tablet. It measures just 190 x 120 x 11.4mm and weighs at 413 grams. Google’s recently showcased Nexus 7 comes with the dimensions of 198.5 x 120 x 10.45mm and its weight is comparably very low at just 340 grams.

Display: Nexus 7 tablet comes with 7-inch backlit IPS LCD display. It has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels resolution. A good thing about it is the fact that it comes with scratch-resistant Corning glass. Transformer Pad TF300 sports a 10.1-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that packs 1280 x 800 pixels at 149 ppi and 16M colors. The multitouch display supports up to 10 fingers and the screen is protected against scratches by Corning’s Gorilla Glass display. At the same time, the Kindle Fire is there with a 7-inch IPS TFT capacitive touchscreen with 1024 x 600 pixels at a better 170 ppi. The difference is that the devices have entirely different display sizes.

Processor, RAM and GPU: Google’s Nexus 7 tablet comes with the most powerful processor in this class. It comes with quad core processor. It is powered by Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core CPU that clocks at 1.3GHz and it has the support of 12-core graphics chip. ASUS Transformer Pad TF300 largely benefits from its quad core processor and enhanced graphics card. The device mounts Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A9 CPU and ULP GeForce graphical card. 1GB of RAM further supports the tablet. The Kindle Fire features a moderate dual core 1GHz Cortex-A9 TI OMAP 4430 processor, PowerVR SGX540 GPU and 512MB of RAM, at the same time.

Operating System: ASUS’s Transformer Tablet runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Google’s Nexus 7 on the other hand comes with the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, search giant’s latest OS update. Jelly Bean comes with several new features including offline voice typing, Project Butter, Google Now, upgraded photo sharing app and NFC technology besides many other top features. The Kindle Fire, in the meantime, is an Android 2.3 Gingerbread tablet. The device is expected to get a second edition with the latest Ice Cream Sandwich. But so far there is no trace of it and Amazon is yet to make any announcement in this regard.

Storage: There is no denying the fact that when it comes to the data storage capacity, the Transformer Pad is a clear winner with 16GB and 32GB internal memory options and 32GB expandable microSD slot. It is when the Kindle Fire only features 8GB of onboard memory plus unlimited Amazon cloud storage option. On the other hand Nexus 7 comes with two options of 8 and 16 GB wit different pricing.

Camera: Search giant Google and its partner ASUS have installed only 1.2-megapixel front camera for making video calls. On the other hand the Transformer Pad has been built with several rich multimedia features. A 8-megapixel rear camera with 3264 x 2448 pixels, autofocus and geo-tagging is the major advantage of the device. You can shoot 1080p HD video using the Asus tablet, which sports a 1.2-megapixel front camera for video chatting. Unfortunately, the Kindle Fire comes with no cameras.
